A very unusual betel-nut mortar carved as janus, wide-hipped, female figures holding the crushing bowl on the tops of their heads. Lower Sepik River, PNG, Melanesia.

Wood with traces of prigment and betel-nut deposit. The bowl is cracked and reglued with part missing.
